BOWLING CLUB OPENING

The official opening of the Opunake bowling green took place on Wednesday afternoon. The president of 'the club (Mr A.' Hindi) in an appropriate speech. declared the green open for the season, and called on Mrs T. H. H. Sinclair to bowl the first jack. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. “PENELOPE” PLEASES.

On Wednesday evening a very successful' play, entitled “Penelope,” was given in the theatre in aid of the funds of the local branch of the Plunket Society. The following was the cast: Penelope (Mrs J. S. Church), Hr. O’Parrel! (Mr E. Smith), Professor Golightly (Mr C. O. Edmonds), Mrs Golightly (Mi sr B. Chambers), Mr Haven port Barlow (Mr P. S. Richards), Mrs Furgusson (Mrs C. Ferriek), Mr .Beadsworth (Mr B. 13. Fleming), Mrs Watson (Miss G. Geary), A Patent (Mr S. Ford), Maid (Miss H. Clouston). The parts were wel 1 acted and the production gave evidence of preparation on the part of the performers and the producers, Mrs 11. S. Jenkins and Mr E. Smith. The musical part of the programme was supervised by Mr AY. D. BiehardS' and an orchestra, comprising Mrs T. N. Wait arid Messrs A. P. Newport, P. Norris, and 11. Henderson.

HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

On Saturday a meeting of ex-pupils of the Opunake District High School was held and it was decided' to ioim an old pupils’ association. The election of officers Resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. H. Burgess; president, Mr G. P. Clegg; vice-president, Miss M. Bailey; lion, secretary, Mr A. Boss; treasurer, Mr B. Dudley; executive committee, Masses E. Hinch, F. Crofskey, G. AVebb M. Bailey, Messrs G. Clegg, H. Brewer, A. Boss, B. Dudley. It was decided to procure badges and also to hold a. dance in the town hall on the night of the opening of Uie new. school. The executive were appointed ixi committee to make arrangements.
