GRAHAM

After seventeen yeans of active association with St, Mary’s Anglican Church. Hawera: ass churchwarden and vestryman, Mr W. Graham has found it necessary, on account of the state of his health, to retire from active work in the c-hureh. In order to mark the appreciation Salt bv the church, people, a presentation was made to Mr Graham last evening at the Parish Hall, an illuminated address being given as a, token of esteem and a recognition of his work. The vicar (Rev. .T. R. Young) made the presentation, referring to the regret that was felt at the loss of the help' of Air Graham and at.his severing Ids connection with the vestry after such a long period of useful) .service. This, 'he said, had been cordiality appreciated and had' been very valuable to the church in Hawera. The vicar said he .hoped the address, which.he had the privilege to present to Mr .Graham, would always remind him of his friendis and co-workers for the church. These sentiments were endorsed! by Messrs E. R. S. Dale, J. M. Townsend (churchwardens) and C. Frampton, H. D. Caplen and J. C. Smith (member* of’the vestry. . . It was mentioned that, in addition io his church work, Mr Graham had for some years been a,, regular visitor to the hospital and Old Peoples’ Home and that his visits had always been appreciated. For many years also, before he came to Hawera, lie had been similarly associated with the Holy Trinity Church, Lyttelton. ~ The address, which is a handsome piece of .illuminated work, was prepared by Messrs Duffill and Gibson and signed by the Vicar and all the officials. In acknowledging the presentation. Mr Graham said it had been a jov to be associated in the work of the cfhurch and it was with the greatest regret that he felt obliged to give it up, owing to indifferent health. He would never for-o-et the kindness and the cordiality ol The relations existing between himself and- the vestry and would treasure the gift as a. reminder of the happy times experienced while he had been a member.
