UNITED PARTY CANDIDATE.

DELEGATES ENDORSE NOMINATION.

The nomination of Air James Douglas Hislop, of Wellington, as .the United Party candidate for the Patea isea.t at the forthcoming emotions was endorsed by a gathering of 85 delegates from various parts of the- electorate, wfho assembed at Patea last evening. The chairman of the meeting was Mr J 11. Corrigan, of Hawera, the former Liberal member, and the opponent at last election of the sitting Reform Party member (Air H. G. Dickie). The decision to announce Air Hislop as the official candidate was unanimous said the organiser, Air S-. R. Yefj'tah. of Hawera, in conversation with a. “Hawera Star” reporter. Arrangements were made for the immediate prosecution of The campaign. Air Hislop was horn 31 years ago at Dunedin, his parents being farmers, and he himself has had farming exepnence'. Educated, at Wellington College, Mr Hislop afterwards joined the Railway Department,'but. at the age of 19 years ho enlisted for war service and was on active service for about two years) Air Hislop epent two years in the head, office of the Repatriation Department an an “after-care officer, > his ■work consisting of inspection of vocational trainees and arrangements rc;r,irdinfP loans and finance. ” Health reasons led to Air Huslop resuming a farming occupation during an interval of three years in Otagio. A Parliamentary atmosphere was 'entered bv Air Hislop wlhen he returned to Wellington, and for the past two years he has been secretary of tip Public Petitions Committee of _ the Hcuwe of Representatives. He is or rtii'etic ability, and is well known in Wellington for that reason.
