DOMINION CHAMPION SHIP. LIGHT PROGRAMME YESTERDAY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 08. It Avas fortunate that a light programme was arranged at the golf championship tournament to-day, for there has been incessant rain all day.

In the play-off of the tie on the first bogey handicap, D. C. Jolly beat Jv. W. Robinson.

Thirty players faced .the rain for the second bogey handicap this morning, and this Avas Avon by J. W. TreAvern, of the Otago Club. In the afternoon the players competed for a stroke handicap, which resulted in a tie between J. R. LaidlaAv and J. C. Sliand, with net scores of 76.

The D driving competition scheduled for to-day Ayas postponed till to-mor--I'oav.

In the play-off for the first stroke between J. W. TreAvern and F. I. DaAVson, the former Avon Avith a net score of 90. *

I't has not ceased raining all day. and in consequence the course; is Avet and sodden and there is AAmter in many of the greens. Unless there is a cessation of the rain to-night the course will be almost unplayable to-morroAv. and when play is resumed under the altered conditions it may upse't the anticipated results of the remaining matches.

Arrangements are practically complete for the opening of the Labour Bay tourney of the HaAvera Men s Golf Club, which AA'ill open 'to-morrow (Saturday) at noon. . The drawing for the qualifying rounds Avas given in yesterday’s “Star ’ l and the result of the eighteen holes will decide the players for the championship land for the Fairfield Handicap. The ■first sixteen play for the former and the next sixteen for the handicap. The course is in good order, greens and tees being capital, while the fairly ays are also good. The competitors include many leadin'7" players from clubs all oi’er Taranaki and from Wanganui and Wavetlev.
