FACTORIES IN NEW SOUTH WALES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received 12.50 p.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. The factories of New South Wales ■last year numbered 11,413, employing 148,958 persons, decreases o'f 416 and 2664 respectively, as compared with ■the previous year. Clothing and textile works were the largest employers, followed by the metal trades. Only ■seven per cent, of the employees were juveniles. THEFT OF EXPLOSIVES. BRISBANE; Oct. I'7. Ernest Ryan has been convicted and fined tor stealing gelignite from the Brisbane City Council store. The police stated that Ryan had ■been approached by two men to obtain explosives, so that they could “put the wind up the volunteers.” HOBART, Oct. 17. The Budget estimates the revenue for the current year at £2,813,000. The reduction of the Commonwealth grant •from £378,000 to £220 hampers the ■Government, which anticipates a deficit of £24,000.
