CHEESEMAKERS’ ANNUAL BALL. The second annual ball, held last evening, under the auspices ot the cheesemakers employed in the Aiokoiu district was from every point ot view an unqualified success, and easily eclipsed its predecessors, there being over 200 coupies present from all parts of South Taranaiii, and -among the assemblage were several visitors from as lar south as Wanganui.
Thu promoters of the function showed by the excellent arrangements made -lor the comfort of patrons thattliey had a “punch” for tilings other than clieese. The hall was tasteiuliy decorated with varied coloured streamers suspended from the centre of the ceiling, and on the walls were hung various emblems of the cheesemaking industry. These were the ends oi cheese ' crates, draped in various colours. During the evening several novelty competitions were decided, each and all creating a great amount of enthusiasm, and as a -result of the keen competition the judges at times were hard put to it to proclaim the ultimate winners.
Air. L. Garrett, the energetic secretary, and his committee were ably assisted. by a strong committee of ladies composed of Mesdames Quin, Tidswell, Holden, Hey, Moore, Irvine and Nickel, who supervised the supper arrangements, and the large number of dancers fully appreciated the many dainties provided. Boulton’s orchestra provided the music, and the duties of M’sC. were ably carried out by Messrs A. Church and L. Garrett. During the supper interval several appreciated extras were contributed by Messrs P. Stefiert, H. Seott, and H. Stetfert. .
