ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATAL COLLISION WITH LORRY. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 16. The inquest into the death of Finlay McGiloray, aged 19, a. motor mechanic, who met his death in a collision with a lorry on September 28, was concluded to-day. The evidence showed that deceased, instead of swinging to the rear of the lorry, veered to his wrong side in an endeavour to pass in front of it. The coroner’s verdict was that deceased died as the result of shock and injuries sustained in a collision, no blame being attachable to the lorry driver. LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. HAMILTON, Oct. 16. The Aucklniul-Rotoma express struck a motor ear at Claudelands level crossing this afternoon, and carried it abofit 130 yards, completely wrecking it. The train backed to release the impaled car. out .of which the driver, Leo Lafferty. of Frankton. a. single man, aged 26, was then thrown. He had a remarkable escape from death. The hospital reports his injuries are apparently only slight.
JUMPED OFF GRAFTON BRIDGE. AUCKLAND, Oct. 16. Arthur George Taylor, aged about 40 years, committed suicide, this afternoon by jumping from the para net of the. Grafton Bridge at the highest point.. The police identified him from a bank book found on the body. There was considerable traffic at the time (about three o’clock). Taylor bad been on the. parapet next to a lamp post, and one woman thought he was attending a light.
