MR. HAWKEN AND CONTROL.
HOW HIS VOTE WAS CAST. STATEMENT BY AIR T. A. WINES. (To the Editor.) Siir, —Aly attention has been drawn to a: statement attributed' to Mr C. A.Wilkinson .that Air Hawken, whilst o. member of the Control Board, voted for absolute control. Considering the antagonism to control round: .the coast a statement like that is likely to* damage Mr Hawken’s candidature in the- minds of some of the Egmont electors. The statement is incorrect and a great injustice has been dou‘e thereby to Air Hawken. Not only has Mr Hawke n registered liis vote on every occasion against absolute control, but ho has maintained a purely neutral attitude whilst administering the Act during his term as Alinister. To prove my assertion is correct I wired Air Brash, secretary of the Control Board, for the division list on the resolution regarding absolute control, and his reply is as follows':— * ‘ Resolution establishing absolute control was carried February 25th, 1925. Voted for: Grounds, Reynolds, Motion, Forsyth, Hamilton, Thacker, Fisher, Goodfellow, loros. Voted against: Hawken, Dalrymple, Mac Ewan. “Brash.” Taking into consideration the serious nature of. such a statement I think Mr Wilkinson should have- ascertained the facts before having made public an assertion of that kind, and now his attention has been drawn to the 'fact I have no doubt lie will publicly withdraw.—l am, etc., THOS. A. WINKS. Hawera., 10/.10/2S.
