Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Lady Doyle have sailed for South Africa, ■states a London Press Association message. A well-attended meeting of ladies was held in the A. and P. Association rooms this afternoon in connection with tlii> tea arrangements at the forthoomin.cr, annual show. A strong committee was set' up to supervise the arrangements, which will he- on the same lines an last year. There was a phenomenal rainfall at Otira. during the- month of September, the total being 45.50 inches. Rain fell on 24 days, the heaviest fall being recorded on September 21 6.68 inches. The rainfall for September, 1927, was 9.73 inches, which was exceptionally low for that month. In September, 1926, the rainfall at Otira was 20.97 inches. There were two falls of snow during the month. September, 1928, is likely also to go down in the history of Greymoutli as one of the wettest months ever experienced. The total rainfall was 12.12 inches, with rain on 26 days, the- maximum being reached on September 22, with I.63'inches. During the previous year’s corresponding period rain fell on 1/ days, the total fall being 5.25 inches, with a maximum of 1.54 inches. The total rainfall for the quarter was 24.21 inches on 60 days, and for the nine months since the beginning of 1928, 67.31 inches on 149 days. _ The figures for the corresponding periods in 1927 were: For the quarter. 18.23 inches of rain on 49 days \ for tlio* nine m-onfiiSj 68.78 inches oh 136 days.
