EXPERIMENTS TO REDUCE STREET NOISES. (British Official Wireless.) KU'GIBY, Oct. 5. A step towards the silencing of traffic noises is being taken by the London General Omnibus Company, which has successfully completed bench tests with a new type of engine which is now being fitted to a vehicle so that tests may be continued under actual service conditions. The engine, which develops 100 horse-power, has' two overhead camshafts hitherto used only in racing cars and luxurious passenger vehicles. The crankshaft, has seven main bearings while the cylinder are in a single piece casting. Another engine to be tested has a single overhead camshaft. Eventually the engine that gives the best allround performance will ibe adopted for the future by the company.
