RAILWAY FACILITIES.
FOR, KAPUNI STATION. MINISTER’S REPLY TO DEPUTATION.. Some time ago a deputation representing the dairying industry, the farming, stock and commercial comm unity, the Alanaia Town Board and the Waimate West County Council met representatives of the Railway Department at Kapuni, when the provision of additional facilities was discussed. A telegram lias .been reoeived by the clerk of 'the Manaia Town Board from the Hon. 0. J. Hawken, conveying the decision of the Minister of Railways (the R.t. Hon. J. G. Coates)- in connection with the matter. The department has decided to station a. caretaker at Kapuni and to install a public telephone as requested by the deputation. With regard to the request for a daily traffic service to Opunake the Mini s'ter stated that this had been considered-., hut the department was of the opinion that the existing service reasonably met present requirements. The representations regarding the provision of a hand crane had also 'been given consideration, but while it was recognised that the facility would be a, convenience, the traffic in heavy packages was comparatively small, and the Minister regretted that he could not comply with this request.
