AN AUTO-MARKET.

DRIVE INTO THE SHOP IN YOUR CAR. It looks as if presently there may be motor-cars on the market with standard equipment that shaves you while you drive. At any rate, .the latest device for . those who want to live in their- cars is an “auto-market,” established at Louisville, Kentucky, according to the “Christian Science Monitor.” Louisville housewives, we are told, need not step out of their motor-cars when they go for groceries, but may drive right into the store, reach out of the'automobile and serxe themselves to what they want, rolling round from counter to counter without even bothering about steering the car. . This is possible only in the . automarket, a novel undertaking whic-li its promoters may try|iut in other cities. The auto-market 'is a long, narrow building with two driveways, an entrance and an exit. \\ hen the housewife drives in, she attaches to the handle of her car door a rope which pulls along a fabric basket, running on rollers, just under the shopper s arm. One of these baskets, wives have pointed out, can carry much more than a husband, and is much handier. After attaching the basket, the shopper puts the car in low gear. The automobile runs on a concrete driveway, just wide enough for a car, and a cement, runway keeps it in line. On the shopper’s le t are revolving shelves of canned goods and staples on one side and mainly fresh fruits and

i i vegetables on the other. The turn ;! at the rear of the store is sharp, so r | a turntable is provided upon which the : . car is driven and steered by machinery | controlled by an attendant. One pays !at th© end of the route, just as m i any other serve yourself grocery. Ati ! .tendants see that shelves are replenished and that customers’ wants are supplied If the shopper does not eare ! to drive, she may walk in by another entrance and help herself from shelves tetween the revolving ones.
