SPRING BLOOMS.

SIXTH SHOW AT KAPONGA. A MERITORIOUS EXHIBITION. The -sixth annual spring show, held under the auspices of the Kaponga Methodist -Show Society, in the Town Hall yesterday was an unqualified success. Hampered at the outset by most unfavourable weather conditions from the growers ’ point ot view, the exhibits were necessarily down in numbers, but the quality of -the bloomy staged not -only left nothing to be desired, but provided an exhibition of outstanding merit. In addition to the benched competitive exhibits, the display 'w as heightened by a superb collection ot daffodil blooms by the veteran grower, Mr R. Gibson, of Manaia, and an exhibition of pot plants and Cut flowers by Mr W. Moss, of (Ngaere. Both these gentlemen acted in the capacity of judges of competitive exhibits. In 'the daffodil section the honours were carried off t>y iMessrs A. 'Chrystal and R. Lewis, of Eltham, and Miss M. Craig, of Pultengahu. Mr -Chrystal won the Hockin Daffodil Challenge Cup and the- special trophy for the champion daffodil bloom, the latter with a superb specimen of the “Nctylenc ” -variety. In this exhibitor’s winning collection of twelve varieties, a vase of three containing a specimen of “Ivantara,” “Clarion” and‘“Swaniey Perfection” varieties was worthy of more than passing notice. Mr 'R. Lewis (Eltham) secured the Challenge Rose Bowl for most points in daffodils, with nine firsts and eleven seconds. ' " ‘ . Miss M. Craig (Pukengahu), the third most successful 'competitor (in daffodils, secured nine firsts and five seconds. In the absence of the Hon. O. J. Ilawken, Minister of Agriculture, who was prevented from attending by prossur© of Parliamentary duties, the show was officially opened by the president (Rev. P. j/Cos’suni). •All arrangements for the Successful conduct of the show were in the capable hands of the secretary and treasurer (Mr N. C. Davies), while the various stalls and departments were controlled bv Mesdames L. Shepherd and J J. DaVison (sweets), Mrs J. Guy, and Miss A. Myhill (fancy goods), Mrs C. Tonkin and Miss Davies (cakes), Misses B. Cossum and M. Harding (parcels), Mesdames I. Evans- and G. P. Cook (supervisors), and a committee Of ladies (tea'room). During the evening session selections were rendered by the Kaponga Municipal Band, under 'Conductor P. 11. | V. Harding,' and proceedings were fur-i ther ©nlivened by the presentation of | special prizes and decisions of the following competitions:—
