BONELESS VEAL.

CONTROVERSY OVER. N.D.A.’S ACTION. ‘ (J3y Telegraph— Pr-ss Association,; PA HI ATI! A, Sept. 24. Replying to the- protest by the. Wairarapa committee against the action of the National Dairy Association of having sold forward the skins and veal of the national pool, M>r Brechin states that Che committee is unfair in its condemnation.

The resolution, which was carried- at the annual conference wasi quite clear, and was a.s fallows : “That the New Zealand Co-operative Producers’ Marketing Association be asked to take over control of .boneless veal on cooperative lines from the slaughterhouse; that the N.B.A. work through the committees in each province prior to. slaughter.’’ The association had set up committees which had done excellent workand had also got inito cable communication with the Marketing Association’s London office on the question of skin values. . Following closely Mr Ellison’s advice tenders were called for the skm-s and the highest was accepted. This was found to he as good as,and probably better than, the other calf skin contract at a stabilised price. The matter of consigning oir selling forward ve«al was a more delicate matter than skins: Mr Ellison was again consulted andi tlie latter strongly advised that veal be sold forward If posable, the danger being that if a heavy consignment of the article arrived inLondon and restricted trade it would endeavour to undermine the market to their disadvantage. Mr Ellison indicated that it n. certain figure could be obtained for veal it should be sold and not consign■ml. Alcting on this advice the N.D.A, had sold forward. Mr Brechin states ‘that farmers will find that no mistake has been made with their, calves. . Mr Brechin declared that certain well-defined interests were at work m the Wairarajpa to undermine the Mar-o-etino- Association, also the National and South Island Dairy Associations. should not romain blinu to* tlio nigger in the wood pile.
