BRITISH REQUEST FOR INQUIRY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 21. The British request tor an inquiryinto opium smoking in' the Far East came before the Ffth Committee of the League yesterday. Thirteen delegates, including six on behalf of the British Commonwealth, voted in favour of the inquiry, 17 re-' framed from voting, and China, although favouring the investigation being extended to include other dangeious drugs and contraband, alone voted against the proposal. Thirteen of the seventeen States who refrained from, voting were European. A resolution favouring the inquiry was forwarded to tlio Assembly. I-t in-*] eludes an expression of the hope that the United States will permit the commission engaged on the inquiry to visit the Philippines.
