EVER-GROWING DEMAND ON FUND. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. . • The Trentham Scholarship War Fund report shows that 287 application® for bursaries were neceivsd last year, as compared with 228 for the previous year. One hundred and forty-five were renewed and l 89 new awards wen? granted, to the total value of £5025, and. 53 were refused. ; Since then, mostly at ' " th© request of applicants, 17 grants, totalling £272 10s have been cancelled. The excess of expenditure over income wai? £1539. This is after allowing for £2OOO contributed 'by the Canteen Fund. The assets in hand amounted to £28,935. Since tin? inception of the fund, £27,275 has been paidl out, and the balance in hand is designed to last for 12 years, but this will to some ex-' tent depend on contributions from the Ca n teen Fund, without whose generonn.' assistance, the report says, 'it would have been impossible bo meet the evergrowing demand on the fund.
