DEMONSTRATION FARM.
. WORK AT STRATFORD. MEETING OF COMMITTEE At the ordinary meeting of the iShratfondi Demonstration Farm Society there were present .Messrs J. At. Smith (chairman), W. H. Were, L. K. Tarrant, J. B. Richards, E. Marfiell and the farm manager. Before commencing the meeting Air Alar-fell welcomed the new chairman, Mr Smith, and Iris remarks were endorsed by Mr Richards and Air Tarrant. The chairman reported that the matter of ’nitrogen topdressing had been attended to. It was resolved that a composite sample of milk should he taken before and While grazing on the nitrogen area and forwarded to the laboratory at Hawera for testing casein and fat contents. The manager reported for the period ending September 12 that 54 oows were in milk, the butter-fat taken for July amounting to 23311 b and that for August 12181 b. Young trees had been planted. Field 7 had been subdivided into four, area B being topdressed with sulphate of ammonia on July 24. Fields 7D and 16 had been graaed and top-dressed- with snqierphosphate and were mow being rolled. They had commenced the concentrate feeding of 28 cows on ■September 6. The chairman reported that the 'herd had been divided into three groups, one group of 16 cows' to receive concentrate feeding, another of 16 cows not to- receive concentrate feeding, and a. third group of 12 cows to receive concentrate feeding for one month. The following cropping arrangements fop the sea-son were made: Field 1, i]rerm.anent pasture (experimental work) -, fie l d 13, clrou mollier and swedes; part field 14, mangolds and carrots; part fold 14. permanent pasture.
