A special meeting of the Australian Council of Trades Union is being held to consider the latest developments ot t'he watersiders ’ strike. FREMANTLE, Sept. 20. The mail liner Orsova is approaching Fremantle at a greatly reduced speed, in the hope that the waterside hold-up will' fee avoided. The liner Cotfeay last week was compelled to resume her voyage without unloading Fremantle cargo. SYDNEY, Sept. 19. Oversea shipping representatives announced to-day that tlie shipowners have decided to employ volunteer labour at the \ waterfronts of those ports where members of the W atersiders’ Federation have refused to oner for work under the full terms of the new award. . The sailing of the Katoomba from Melbourne for Fremantle on Saturday was cancelled following a conference between the Victorian Premier, the Hon E J. Hogan, and the officials, of the Watersiders’ Federation, when it was stated that the hold-up-at that port might end soon. .. . Workers at Brisbane again declined to work under the Beebv award, but the transport groups of unions consider that the watersiders must resume. Meantime watersiders at Cairns, Port Douglas, and Townsville are working. The continuance ot the strike at Adelaide has resulted in the postponement of the wool sales scheduled for Friday. In the House of Representatives at Canberra, Mr. Nott said he had received a telegram stating that tood supplies were running low in QneenslaThe Federal Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. S. M. Bruce, said it was difficult for the Commonwealth to take action, but the matter would be referred to the Queensland Government. Mr. Bruce gave notice of the introduction of a Bill designed to provide measures of- protection for free labour on the wharves when transport services ure interrupted by industrial troubles.
