I CROQUET CLUB. (From our own correspondent). The annual meeting, of the Opunake Croquet Club was held on Friday afternoon last. The president (Mrs T. N. Watt) presided over a good muster of members. The balance-sheet (showed 1 a, credit of. £5 os lid. _ The following new members were elected!: JMesdanms I*. J. Campbell, A. J. Brennan' H. W. Barra dough, A. F. Hinch, J. Kershaw, A. C. Fernick, E. J. Wallis and - M iss E. Elliott. Thie election of officers resulted as under:—President, Mm R. S. Jenkin; vice-presidents, Mesdameis T. H. H. 'Sinclair and W. E. Gunson; secretary, Mrs P. Dalrymiplo (re-elected); committee: Mcsdame.s A. O’Brien, T. N. Watt, ,T. Preston, S. Not-cross and A. 0. Ferrick. Mrs Jenkins was elected <■l :*i> captain. A hpairty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president. Mm T. N. Watt) ror iner goon- work for the club. Votes of thanks were also passed to the secretary (Mrs P. Dairy,m pie) and the. auditor (Mr A. O’Brien). GOLF. j Daring the week-end the local golf c'ub members received a visit from a j team from the Elltham Club. Although the weather was not ideal, an enjoytime was spent. Mr A. A. Stewart-, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the local club for their hospitality, and All- J. N. Stephenson replied on behalf of the Opunake Club. Afternoon tea, was provided by the ladies. The following were the details of the ola.y, E'ltham players being mentioned first in each case: — Morning round.—Stewart and Oasev all squave with Wilson and Stephenson ; Phillips and Young all square 1 with Church.and Edmonds; Abbott and 1 Olernow defeated Boyle and Dawkims ■l up and ; Morton and Miller defeat'd' Julian and Robinson, 4 up and 3 D? Launnay and Free defeated Res ■■ res and Fleming, b up and 3. Afternoon round. —Stewart and Casey defeated Wilson and Stephenson 5 up and 3; Phillips and Yruing lost to Edmonds. and Church 1 down; Abbott and Clemow lost. to Da,whins and Boyle 2 down and 1 ; Morton and Miller defeated Julian and Robinson sup and 4; De Launay and Free defeated. Des Forges and Jones 2 up and 1: Ritter and' Fountnine defeated Nivens and Fleming 5 up and 3. Totals: Eltham 7, Opunake 2. The loca.l championships have reachI ed the semi-final stage, and the finals will probably be played this week-end GENERAL. On Monday evening last the local Ranger Comapnv gathered. to bid farewell to their captain (Mrs. F. M. Corkill), who will shortly be leaving the district.' Miss G. Geary, on behalf of the company, referred to the good work Mrs. Corkill had done for the Ranger Company, and presented her with an illuminated address. Mrs. Corkill suitably replied. A number of local residents travelled ] to Hawern on Tuesday to witness the landing of the trans-Tasman fliers from Wellington. .
