SATISFACTORY YEAR’S WORKING
The annual report of the New Plymouth Jersey Cattle Club to be presented at the annual meeting next week, records with regret the death of Mr J. A. Kurtli, who had been a member of the committee and had taken a keen interest in the affairs of the club. After congratulating members on a successful year the report record/s that the present worth of tlie third Oaks funds is £44 4s 7d. Second acceptances have been /paid on nineteen animate. The final acceptance becomes due and payable on January 31, 1929. Two very satisfactory club .sale ; « have been held during the year, a sale of bulls in October and a. sale of females in May. The next sale of bulls is to take place on October 3 at the A, and P. Showgrounds. The Manawatu Jersey Cattle Club brought before the committee a: /suggestion that steps be taken to have the degree of type of registered female Jersey, cattle recorded in and form part of the pedigree’ on lines similar to those operating on Jersey Island. The committee gave full consideration to the suggestion, and called a special general meeting to consider the recommendations of the Alana.watu Club. The general principle of the scheme was affirmed, and later Messrs Sampson and Bell represented! the club at a conference held in Palmerston North, when details' were discussed.
It was decided at this conference to bring the matter forward at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cattle Breeders’ Association. This was done, and a recommendation that the council introduce as soon as passible a /system providing for the classification, according to type, or registered female Jersey cattle, on lines submitted, was adopted, Tlio committee congratulates Mr G. H. Bell upon hte election to the council of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, and expresses to Air E. Griffiths /its appreciation of the faithful service he has rendered to the breed during the many years ho represented, the district on the council. The outlook for the conning /season, continues the report, is distinctly good. Times have been difficult, and Prices for stock have been on the low side. An optimistic tone is -abroad: there is a good demand for Jersey cattle, and recent sales have shown a substantial rise in prices.
