LEVIN, Sept. 8. A fatality occurred on the railway line near Shannon late yesterday afternoon, when the up Auckland express ran into a jigger on which William Sherlock, a railway ganger, was riding, Sherlock attempted to throw liimseli clear when he saw the train but was struck by the engine and thrown down an embankment. Hie injuries were serious <a.nicl lie* wits taken, to ItajlmOTiston North Hospital where he died at 11 o’clock last night. . It was presumed that the high gale which was blowing prevented him from hearing the warning whistle. He leaves' a widow and five'young children.
