OHAWE.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Owing to unfavourable weather condit.ons. the Ohawe felling fleet have been held up for some time. There is still a heavy sea running, which it is predicted by the owners of the boats will prevent them going out for some days. thanks to the high spring tides on Friday last, the deoeaised cattle which were stranded on the beach some, days ago have disappeared leaving tlie vicinity in a clean and healthy (state. The sanitary inspector, Mr Gooding, paid an official visit to the district on Wednesday, and is taking isteps to prevent a re-occurence of the recent menace to health.

t will be regretted by all concerned that tlie efforts of tlie Domain Board for the exchange of .part of tlie Domain for the baisin or native reserve have so- fan- proved ineffective. A large number of the natives have been busy during tlie last few days preparing building sites and cleaning the land ready for the plough, the intention being to nlant the whole basin with potatoes, etc.

Tlie acreage of potatoes being grown in the ‘Ohawe district this season is large compared with previous yeans. The early potatoes are (showing; well above the ground. Given mo. heavy frosts, the yield should be a record one.

The proprietress' of the Ohawe Post Office' store has had several alterations to the. premises- lately, the carpentering work being carried out by Mr Mather (Ohawe) and the plumbing by Mr Phillips. It is Mrs Maeßae’s intention to l have put down an up-to-date lawn tennis court adjoining the .store for the use of the public. This will be appreciated by visitors and residents, there being no court in the district.
