ELTHAM DRAINAGE BOARD.
A :ORK ON THE NG AERE SWAMP
At a meeting of the Eltham Drainage Board, on Wednesday, the following members, weie present: Messrs \\, C. U,e,mi3nf (cdi airman), J. Cbcker, J. isei.ll. H. A. Wood, .and A. Cocker. In connection with the old circuit drain, it was resolved that ‘Mr Rye be •given authority to fill in five chains on the ©astern end. . As the outcome of the recent visit of inspection of Mr R. G. McMoiain, chief drainage engineer of this Department of Lands and Survey, Auckland, the board has been advised that Mr Low, one of the Department’s officers, will visit. Eltham this month and take the levels and soundings of the Ng-aere swamp at Rawhitiroa. The meeting considered the mat tea of drain-cleaning, and it was resolved that ratepayers be asked! for their opinion as to whether during the eoming year the drains should be cleaned by the settlers themselves as 1 origin ai.l-y undertaken, or Whether they would prefer the board should strike a cleanin<>- rate and itself undertake the work. The ratepayers are being ci-rcuhi,raised to this effect-.' and the hoard will hold a "’1 rtih-er meeting on the 19th mst. to deal with the question. —“Argus.
