HAWERA BOROUGH AFFAIRS
ADMINISTRATIVE WORK. COUNCIL’S SPECIAL MEETING; Estimates for the year were presented at a special meeting of the Hawera Borough Council last evening, and were approver! subject to certain additions. The estimates will be published later with the formal notification of intention to strike the rates. There were present at the meeting the Mayor “(Mr. E. A. Pacev) and Crs. G, J. Bayley, W. R. Butler, E. Morrissey, A. Reid and J. M. Townsend. The proposal to procure a. motor lawn mower for use on the park grounds was referred back to the Parle Committee for further details. In(luded with the estimates for expenditure on the recreation grounds was £3O for the erection of a temporary wooden platform for use at open-air concerts. A, telegram was received from the district engineer of railways advising that he would meet the works committee at 10.30 o’clock on Wednesday morning, with reference to the entrance to the railway stockyards.
Advise was received from the Hawera Electric Light Company of the intention of the Hospital Board to disconnect the service line traversing the grounds of the old hospital to the cemetery cottage, -and that the cost of work on the cemetery grounds would be £lO 7s. —It was decided to authorise the company to do the work.
Notification of its proposal that a deputation should wait upon the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health during the latter part of September with reference to hospital management and the direct representation of local bodies on hospital boards was .received font the Palmerston North Borough Council.—The Mayor wa® appointed as the counsel’s representative.
Advice of representations made to the Post and Telegraph Department regarding the granting of a. right-of-way between Princes' Street and! Albion Street was received from the Hawera •Chamber of Commerce, together with a letter from Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P.. concerning the necessary application by the council to have the rights vested •in the council. —Consideration was de ‘erred rending the receipts of furthon i n formation.
