OLD TIME DANCE.

A, POPULAR FUNCTION. Last evening the Savoy tearooms were taxed to their utmost to accommodate the large number of dancers who attended to enjoy the old-time dances. Approximately TOO couples took the floor, and the favourite waltz, schoktisdlie, lancers, valeta and d’Alberts etc., were indulged in until two o’clock this morning. The social committee ol; the South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association is to be congratulated upon its efforts last evening and it is safe tQ' say that the social is the forerunner of many more of the same kind. .Excellent music was provided by Miss Butler’s orchestra, and encores were the order of the evening. After supper interval, a waltzing competition proved a great draw, and the judges were hard put to fit to select the winners, there being no less than three separate dances put on before the ultimate winners were declared, and Mr F. Doyle and Miss' Ada White gained the verdict amidst great applause. The committee responsible tor the excellent arrangements and the comprehensive programme was composed of Messrs H. Briggs. M. Squire, A. L. Palmer, L. Marter and E. H. Piper. The success of the evening was largely due to the ladies’ committee' under the leadership of Mrs Lovell, who supervised the supper arrangements and who was ably assisted by Mesidajnes Veitoh, Webber, Budge, Hobbs, Briggs and Jones. The onerous duties of M’s.O. were ably carried out by Messrs H. Briggs, M. R’. Jones and A. L. Palmer. . During the supper interval, appreciative extras were played by Messrs J. Renwick and L>. S. Prison.
