Mr O. .Goodson, of Hawera, left by the express train this morning on a visit to Wellington. Mi* J. B. Murdoch, of Hawera-, left on a visit to Taili-ape this morning. Messrs E. Walter M.P. (-Stratford), and O. E. Bellringer, M.P. (New Plymouth), were pasengers -for AYellangton by this morning’s express. Mr F. L. Severne, of Kaponga, was a pasenger for Wellington by this morning’s express. Mr Walter Monk, representative iof J. -C. Williamson, Ltd., was in 'Hawera to-day arranging for the two-night season of the Leon Gordon Company, which opens at the -Opera House on T hursdav wee k.
Among the shareholders present at the annual meeting of the. Kaupokonui Dairy Company meeting yesterday, was Mr Robert Dunn, formerly of Auroa and now in New Plymouth, is looking very well and many friends will be glod to know that Mrs Dunn whose health for a long time was giving much concent is now very much improved. The last rites in connection with the late Sir William Sim were observed at Anderson’s Bay (Dunedin) crematorium on Sunday following a burial service held at the residence of the late judge. Several hundred mourners Were present j including representatives of practically every section of the community, while wreaths were _ received from eveiy part of the Dominion. The services at the -residence of the late j-udo-e and at the crematorium were conducted by the Bev. A. Wingfield, Anglican vioar of Holy Cross at St. Killda,
Many tributes were paid to tbe chairman, Mr 13. T. Burke, at t-he Kaupokonui Dairy Company meeting yesterday, for his great work on behalf of the company during the past trying yiGcirs. <Mx Butt s&icl t-Jixit there” vas any man who was responsible for bringing Kaupokonui from its old position to its present prosperous condition, it was Mr Burke., Another, in pa-yin" him a rather unique compliment said: “In fighting he’s Irish, bulb m finance he’s Scotch, and a regular tiger for work. Replying, Mr Burke said that shareholders had .stood behind him and that was what had pulled Kaupokonui out of trouble. Mr F. A. Htarkness has received Word of the death of his brother. Mi O. R. Harkness, who, as a young man was well-known on this coast, particularly in Taranaki and Waveriey, bein" a prominent footballer and .a member of the Wairoa Light Horse, says the “Wanganui Chronicle.” Durnig the Kilondyke gold rush, a party left Wanganui consisting of Messrs J. C. Nixon, W. Beaven, W. Paul and the late Mr 0- R. Harkness. The latter settled in Mexico, where he died.
