PRISON FOR THIRD OFFENCE

Thomas Clarence Pearce, a motor salesman, aged 28, a single, man, who had been twice previously convicted of intoxication while in charge of a, car and fined £lO and £ls, was to-day sent to gaol for two months for the third offence. He also got two months’ imprisonment for the illegal conversion of a car belonging to Lawrence Dillon, the sentences to be concurrent. He was convicted and discharged for a breach of his prohibition order,_ and was also suspended from obtaining a driver’s license for two years.
FAILED TO APPEAR 'ON BAIL.
HASTINGS, 'Sept. 1
Remanded on bail from last Tuesday on separate charges of vagrancy, Lawrence Mcßandell, Edward Weeks and Edward .Tames Lainey failed to appear in court when their names were called this afternoon, and warrants were issued for their arrests.
DATE FO'R TRIAL FINED
DUNEDIN, Sept. 1
William John Hardie, charged with the murder of Joe 'Slum, at Kyeburn Diggings oil July 17, was remanded to appear at Nasebv on Wednesday when the inquest and trial commences. The hearing- is expected to occupy two days.
MONEY OBTAINED BY FALSE PRETENCES.
AUCKLAND. Sept. 1
Robert Vernon, aged 30, was, sentenced to six mnoths’ imprisonment by Mr Hunt. S.M., for obtaining money by means of false pretences. The, monev was obtained from solicitors on the representation by the accused that he- was a land agent and had sold, or was, labour- to sell, a farm at Ngatcia, arranging with the solicitor to do the 'o id work.He would then borrow from each £5,
