A GREAT JUDGE.
TRIBUTES TO THE LATE SIRAVI LI JAM SIM.

CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 31. Glowing tributes to the late. Sir William Sim were paid by Bench and Bar in the Supreme Count to-day. in the course of his remarks, Mr K. Neavo, president of the Canterbury Law Society, said: “Death, and the age of retirement of honourable members of the Supreme Court Bench have taken a heavy toil o-f late of His Majesty’s judges, and the lamentable death of Sir William Sim is a tragedy for the Bench and for the Bar in particular. for our profession as <a> whole, and, indeed., for the entire community.”
Air Justice Adams staid it was his privilege to become acquainted with his late colleague many years ago, when Sir William went to Dunedin and .started that career during which lie iaa.rne.di the respect- and admiration of everyone and covered himself with honour. Sir William went to Dunedin in 1879 and His Honour wa® in constant association with him from 1883. During his career at the Bar he showed fine appreciation of all the honourable traditions of the procession, of which In? was an ornament. Hi® courage, honour and integrity were equalled only bv his knowledge and skill os an advocate. “He was.” said His Honour, “a man who was' a- diligent student, a, great -reader, a man of great courage, fine principle, profound knowledyi? c-f the law, and with a keen analytical mind, tempered only, as they must be in cider to produce the true judicial temijjerament, by a knowledge of human affairs.”
“He has for many years given of his host to his clients in earlier days and to the public. While in the -public view he exhibited all the qualities which, go to make a great judge in the administration of justice. Those_whose privilege it was to know him in his social Slid-? will have many very pleasant memories of his personal charm, and capacity for friendship.”
