The high esteem in Which the late Miss Maureen McHardy, of Pihama, wa s held by the people of the district was fully evidenced by the large following at, the funeral which took place on Mon da v. The casket was covered with beautiful wreaths, illustrating the universal esteem in which the deceased girl was held. 'The Rev. Father M'cITardy, assisted by- the Rev. Father Kennedy, officiated at the church and the graveside. At 9 a.m. a .Requiem Muss was celebrated at the Catholic. Church by. the Rev. Father MeHardy, and as the funeral left Mr W. Markham played the Dead March. The bearers were .Messrs L. J. Macßeynolds, J. and F. Read, Marcus .Brophy, and D. P. and R. .Fleming. Visiting clergy included Revs. Father C’Dwyer (Manaia), Bell (St. Patrick's College), Faher (Otaki), Campbell and Viband (Wanganui), Outram (Christchurch), Hegarty (Eltham), Barr-Brown (New Plymouth), Menard (Upper Hutt), Dillon (Inglewood), and E. MeHardy (Meance .Seminary). An announcement affecting the allocation of Ministerial portfolios has been made by the Prime Minister. The Governor-General has accepted the resignations of the Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister of External Affairs, and the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Marine, and has appointed Mr. J. G. Coates Minister of External Affairs and Sir Maui Pomare Minister of internal Affairs. The appointment of the Prime Minister as Minister oi External Affairs is in accordance with the announcement made some months ago. Sir Pomare has been actingMinister of Internal Affairs practically since the death of the Hon. R. F. Bollard, and Sir Francis Bell has been acting-Minister of Marine since .Mr Anderson’s departure for England last year.
