FARMER FOUND UNCONSCIOUS. (By Telegraph—Pres3 Association.) . INVERCARGILL, August 23. Shortly after noon to-day a farmer, Cleave Gerard, single, _ aged 23, was found lying unconscious in a stable on his farm. There was a bullet wound in bis head and lying beside him was a .22 repeating rifle containing a spent cartridge. He was taken to the Southlaii] Hospital, where he lies in a serious condition. SURVIVED SHOCK OF 30,00 VOLTS

CHRISTCHURCH, August 24.

It is reported that a shock of 33.000 volts was received by Balfour Marshall, an employee of the Public Works Department, when he was working at the switch station at Tai Tapu. Marshall is a member of the Christchurch Football Club, and is believed that his physical fitness enabled him to fight successfully against tlie effects of the shock. He is making,very satisfactory progress in the hospital.
