(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' GRAND DANCE. The grand dance held last Friday proved to 'be one of the? most successful functions that has been held in Manultahi for many years. The hall was prettily decorated with flags and streamers relieved with large paper •bells. During the evening n waltzing competition, a ribbon dance, and other competitions were held, the prizes being donated by Mr 11. McCarthy. Excellent music was .dispensed iby Barton’s orchestra of four instruments, and a dainty supper was handed round, Mr J. .Couch carried out the duties of M.C. in a. very .Capable manner. Visitors were present from all the surrounding districts. Some of those present were Mis Tidswell, red georgette; Mrs liar vie, pink silk; Mrs A. 'gchwass, green silk; Mrs C. Barclay, tbla'ek With silver; Miss 0. Sullivan, pink crepe de chene and lace; Miss Taylor, cherry crepe de chene; Miss Gibbs, cyelomen georgette; Mass Church, mauve crepe do chene; Mites Richards, pale mauve crepe de chene; Miss, Port.eons, pink silk; Miste Yates, pink frock; M3iss E. Ilarvie, jblaek .and silver; Miss J. Chandler, bl'aek .georgette .and gold lace. GENERAL. A meeting of .telephone subscribers was held on Monday night to discuss ways and means of obf.-iii ing a more efficient service for the district. Of late t r c service given has been of a very poor standard and it was resdv ed to approach the chief engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department in Wellington with a request, Voiced iby Mr Dickie, M.P., to have the system overhauled and improved. Several speakers said that .they did not mind paying evt-a charges for an efficient service. OBITUAE V. A very old resident in the pm son of Mrs O’Neill passed away in Rawer a on Monday. Mrs O’Neill, v. it It her I husband, Mr P. O’Neill, faced bravely' the trials and hardships of the pioneers, and won the respect of all' for her courageous outlook on life. Sincere sympathy is ex tended to the bereaved family.
