MANCHU TOMBS.
BOBBED OF JEWELS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) SHANGHAI, Aug. 18. Further startling evidence of tlhe desecration of the 'tomb's of the GVfanehu royal families outside Peking has been obtained by the discovery of 36 boxes of jewels and precious stones ‘to-day aboard a foreign steamer at Tientsin ready for shipment aboard, r ‘The value is 1,000.000 dollars. A Nationalist military official has been arrested. The jewels proved to have been looted from the Manehu mausoleum. The display of sundry royal treasures in Peking curio -shops recently led to the discovery that they had been looted from tombs. A strict watch was kept, leading to to-day’« discovery. Priceless treasures are believed to have been lost, for which Nationalist soldiers garrisoned at Peking are blamed.
