BROAD ’.S ACHIEVEMENT. (Australian Cr.-ss Association — United Service.) LONDON, Aug. 17. After completing 24 hours aloft, a world’s endurance record for a light plane, Captain -Hubert .Broad landed m his Moth aeroplane at 'Stag Lane at 5.30 this evening. , The previous best time Was that, ot Hinkler, who, on his .journey to Australia -in a light ’plane, was, on the first stage of his journey in the air for Id hours. Broad’s machine, a Gipsy .M-ot.li, is the same tvpe of craft on which he secured for Britain the world s speed and altitude records for light aircraft. Broad had not. set himself any particular course, but wandered at will over England. He average a speed ot about SO miles an hour. When firing an a straight course the Moth was'-so oaky to guide that Broad was able to sot, the controls and read a book, lie was met in the air to-dav by Captain White, al-s'o flying a .Math, at a height of 4000 feet.. He was then reading and eatinig sandwiches, while the machine flew itself.
