WOMEN’® DIVISION N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

The woman’s division of tbe Farmers’ Union held a meeting during the weak, which was presided over by Mrs T. Sutherland. There were twenty members present. The president gave an account of the conference, at Wellington, and Manaia was heartily congratulated in forming a branch at 30 hours’ notice. It was the forty-sixth branch in New T Zealand, and there were now 3000 members. A feature .of the afternoon tea. was the top tier of the birthday cake madie by the Invercargill branch. It was hoped that at next meeting Mrs. W. J. Poison would be present and give an address. CHORAL SOCIETY. Tbe Manaia. Choral Society is hard at work in preparing a first-class programme for its annual performance, which is to be held in the Town Hall, Manaia., on September 5. The choir’s condition of the various items is worth (Special mention, and reflects great credit on the conductor, Mr Lamb. The society will be ably supported by Mr Ackroyd, Mrsi Twaddle, Miss Grinrod and the Ha.wera Male Quartette. DANCE, A large attendance is expected at the old-time and modern dance which is to be held in the Manaia Town Hall on Wedensday night in aid: of the Horticultural Society. FOOTBALL. The Waimat-e Maori Football Team will play Feildino; at the Manaia Domain’ on Wednesday afternoon. A dance will bo held in the evening at tbe Waioknra pa. BAND AFFAIRS. A meeting of citizens interested in the Manaia Municipal Brass Band’s new instrument fund is to be held in the Town Hall to-morrow night (Tuesday). The band has received an exceptional offer to. obtain a first-class set of instruments and the support of residents is confidently anticipated. RIFLE CLUB. A meeting of members of the Manaia Rifle Club was hold on Saturday night to dispose of.the surplus funds. It wa.sj proposed by Rifleman Andrews, 'seconded 'by Rifleman Sutton, that the Manaia Band receive £35, the Horticultural Society £lO, the women’s division of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union £5 and the Fire Brigade £5.
