MUNICIPAL MUSICS IN AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, Aug. 17. lb was stated at a meeting otf the Chamber of Commerce that if the Auckland City Council wished to economise, city organ, municipal band and oho-iij could he done away with ia saving of £6OOO .per annum. Very few attended the organ recitals. The Radio Broadcasting Company notified the Auckland City Council tliiat it did. not intend to renew the contract for broadcasting organ recitals from the Town Hiall. The council appointed a committee to consider the whole mattor and report on the question of continuance of municipal concerts.

CITY TRANSPORT MATTERS

AUCKLAND, Aug. 17. A report presented to the Auckland City Council'stated that of 106 buses taken over from opposition proprietors, 55 were past their economic life as buses .and had been scrapped. The remaining fifty were in their last year of tfijair economic life. Authority was given to a recommendation to provide for the ibraiding of 25 to 50 additional tram cars.

LOCAL SUMMER. TOME. AUCKLAND. Aug. 17. The Summer Time Local Empowering Bill received the endorsement of the Auckland City . Council last evening, after the council hod heard, a deputation by the Auckland Daylight Saving League. GUAR ANTEE OF MOTOR TYRES. AUCKLAND, Aug. 17. The terms of the guarantee for the replacement of defective motor tyres were argued in the Magistrate’s Court when Goodrich Tyres Limited sued E. Le Grice for £24, claimed as half the listed price of two. motor-truck tyres which the defendant had received from them. The tyres were admittedly . replacements in lieu of the original tyres, which had blown out after a month’s running. Plaintiffs claimed that thev were’ entitled: to half the cost of the price of replacement The magistrate (Mr Hunt) deoided that the tyres were replaced in pursuance of a guarantee of 90 days’ wear made by the company, and nonsuited the plaintiff company. If the company had 1 any claim at oil, lie said, it was against the motor firm to whom they supplied the tyres and 1 , from whom' the defendant purchased the truck.
