ALTON GUN CLUB BALL.

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. A "hard-up ’’ ball wins held in the Alton Hall on Wednesday night last to wind up the season for the Alton Gun Club. The hall Adas tastefully decorated with streamers of xoyial blue and gold, the club’s colours, festooned from above two hanging baskets filled With yellow and gold paper flowers ail'd draped with lakapodium. This artistic decorative work was devised and executed by .Messrs Fred and George Anion. There was a good attendance of dancers and the prosperity of the district may be gauged from the fact th'at wearers of "hard-up” costumes 'Were greatly in the minority. The music supplied by Boulton’s orchestra left nothing to be desired and kept the feet tripping till close on 3 a.m. Extras were played by Miss M. Hurley, who was forced to respond to repeated encores. Messrs S. Oouchman and P. Nickel admirably performed 'the duties of masters of ceremonies.

Before the supper interval, Mr A. J. Gibbs, p'atron of the Alton Gun Club, presented the trophies won by members during the season. He first congratulated the club members on their very successful inaugural year, the club membership totalling fifty, thirty of whom were active competitors at thb shoots. Mr Gibbs also thanked the donors of the handsome trophies which had been competed for during the season. Thanks were also due to Mr Harry Hodge for the use of his grounds and to Mrs Hodge and other ladies for their walling assistance in providing afternoon teas for the marksmen every .Wednesday, an “act of mercy” which probably partly accounted" for the high standard of shooting.
