OHAWE TOWNSHIP

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —\ notified in the “Star” an exhaustive and exhausting report of the sanitary official on .affairs at Ohawe. 1 am unfortunately one of those who did their .bit in making the limp ire safe and am carrying out a further obligation of .paying a share of the war expenses. As this sacrifice has left me shou t of cash, and having a bonny family of which I am justly proud, 1 grasped the offer of tire Government and secured a. section at Ohawe. described. oft in your columns as HaweraVa playground. With the waste wood that is doubtless referred to, and to suit my own humour, X proceeded to erect (with Government consent) a domioiilary edifice. Sir, many weeks of fun have been the result of this .effort, and much health have the children .gathered, for we have enjoyed liberty in Hiawera’s playground. I would earnestly say to officialdom (not the inspector) “leave Ohawe alone.” One cannot overcrowd in the open-air, and visits are only transitory. The man who has sense enough to take his family out of town can look after that same family’s welfare and sanitation. That almost every isectionholder is a member of the Ohawe committee which functions for their own good .proves it. Might I suggest that surprise visits from the sanitary inspector, a County Council official .sitting on our committee and a .good bump to those who commit offences are all that are required in the housing department of Ohawe. If offfieiaildoim. goes to the extent .suggested by the report of the council meeting, Haweia’s playground ends and Ohawe naturally passes into the hands of the class that fare welled the troops, folded their hands and ’ collected warbends. —I am, etc., RESENTFUL.
