JAPAN’S WARNING TO CHINA

TOKIO, Aug. 10. The Government has published Japan’s reply to Nanking’s commercial treaty. It refuses to accept the Nanking viewpoint and urges China to withdraw the abrogation. The Note concludes strongly : “If Nanking persists in the enforcement of its proposed provisional regulations Japan may be obliged to take such measures as are deemed suitable to safeguard her rights and interests assured by treaties.”

AGREEMENT WITH BRITAIN. SHANGHAI, Aug. 10. The agreement covering the Nanking incident has been signed by Britain and China. Sir Sidney Barton, British Consul-General at Shanghai, made a special journey to Nanking for the purpose.

Dr. Wang, Nationalist Minister of Foreign Adairs, has reported that Sir Sidney discussed with him the revision of Sino-British treaties.

The text of the agreement has not yet been published.
