DEBATE IN THE BILL

In tie House of llepresentatives to„irr|,i the Minister of Agriculture ior-lii-ili.- mo.ed the second reading of the Noxious Weeds Bill which, he explained, contained nothing new. Mr W. D. Lysnar urged that there should be something new in the Bill. It was absurd to include Californian thistle in the first schedule, as it was good pasture, sheep and cattle being extremely fond of it. The Hon. D. Buddo said there were s e Uls' in Canterbury which wero 50 per cent Californian thistle, and that was not profitable fanning. Those farmers should be compelled to clear their he ds and the 1 aimer who prevented his thistle from seeding should be protected against one who did not Mr A. M. Samuel declared that Californian thistle was one of the finest r ,nds they had in the Waikato and lie | did not agree that it should he classed as a noxious weed. [ When the House resumed at < ..iJ ipm. the debate on the Bill was continuetl. The Minister briefly replied and the Bill was read a second time.
