ELTHAM SCHOOL.
MEETING OF .COMMITTEE, The monthly meeting of the Eltham School Committee Was held on Thursway evening, was attended by Messrs \V. R.icketts (chairman), A. R. Kemp, E. A. Walsh, J. O. Walsh, O. C. Stunners, Revs. J. A. Rlyburn and W. W. Avery (secretary).) Air It. E. Thomas, headmaster, was also present and reported the .average attendance for the month at 352.3 (iboysi .179.9, girls 172,6). The average for the last week oif the month was 362 —ail improvement owing to there being less sickness than during the previous month. The average attendance for the quarter was 338.8 (hoys 171.4, girls 167.5). Thirty-one pupils were admitted and twenty-two left the school. The present roll number was 389 (boys 198, girls 191). On July 21, notice was received that the children at the Salvation Army Boys’ Home would commence attendance at the ELtham School on August 13. Arrangements. for their transfer had been made by Adjutant Bogan, The headmaster also, reported that the. sum of £3 18s had been expended on library books. A matter for consideration was the top-dressing of the football ground and rolling a portion in preparation for cricket. The school would be closed for the second term holidays from August 18 to September 3,' inclusive. DENTAL CLINIC ACTIVITIES. Dental Nurse H. C. Hunt reported on work for the- month as follows: Number of patients, treated, 45 ; number of operation, 96; schools treated, EHthia.m, Manaia, Ivapuni. THE SWIMMING GLASS. Mr A. E. Gilliver advised having notified the secretary of the North Taranaki Centre of the Boyal Life-saving Society (Air L. Frethy, New Plymouth; that swimming certificates would be required for presentation to members of his class as follows : 50 yards, 38 learners ; 220 yards, 10 proficiency; <BBO yarns, 27. merit; two life-saving elementary; two life-saving proficiency.— It was decided to defer presentation of the certificates until the Christmas break-up ceremony. The treasurer reported a credit balance. of £45 6s lGd. Accounts amounting to £2O-17s were passed for payment. Air J. C. Walsh was deputed to attend to top-dressing the football ground. Tt was resolved that the _ infant school be open, to the public during the afternoon of August 18 to give parents and , others interested an opportunitj of inspecting the results of the recent alterations to the buildings. The chairman’.s action in authorising the -expenditure of £ls oil reading matter for the school was endorsed. Air A. R.. Kemp and Rev. J. A. Ryburn were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
