Apparently as the result of a lighted match or smouldering cigarette having been thrown clown carelessly a hedge in Camberwell Road. Hawera, caught tire shortly before 10 o’clock last evening. The crackling of the tire was audible in Surrey Street to a messing pedestrian, who roused the occupants of thcc house, and a few buckets of water n'uenched the outbreak before serious damage was effected. Given a little longer time, however, the hedge would in all probabilitv have been destroyed and buildings in the vicinity would have been menaced. Hens in the United States lay 700 eggs a second.
