(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian !Press Association.) Received 11.15 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Aug. 1. The ladies’ golf cup competition at tlie Hose Bay links opened in glorious weather. Two Victorian players, Miss Mona MacLeod, the Australian champion. and Mrs. Alex. Russell, gave lino exhibitions, this pair leading at the end of the first- round of the competition, which is for thirty-six holes. Playing on scratch. Miss Olive Kay, the New Zealand champion, who created great interest, hardly did herself justice on tlie first day, but some of her short approaches were very fine. Miss MacLeod and Mrs. Russell at the end of the first round were each 84, Miss Kay -93. Mrs. Russell triumphed at the end of the second dav, winning the cup with 84—89—164. Miss MacLeod was second with 84—82—166.. Mrs. Morgan IN.SAY.) third with 87—84—171. Miss Kay’s score was 93—83—176. Tljie latter played a vastly improved game owing to great familiarity with the links, her long hitting causing admiration. Her approaching was much more accurate than on the first dav. She, however, found the light different from New Zealand.
