AUSTRALIANS AND CARS CNE TO TWELVE PERSONS. A world census of motor vehicles ak at the bee inning of the year, compiled through the National Automobile Chamber of Comtner.e of America, shows a grand total of 29,505,475 cars. As in 1926, Australia, stands fifth in regard to the number of registered ears. The order is as follows: — United States. 26,156,115. United Kingdom 840,000. Canada 831,542. France 656,000. Australia 346,885. Germany 295,600. The returns show Australia as possessing' at the beginning of the iear, 75.835 trucks and I Col motor buses. The number of motor vehicles (excluding motor-cycles) in the United States, averages one for every five of popußti n. Canade had one vehicle fo>- e e:*y 1(1 head of population, and Aust.ra n one for every 14. Seventy-eight- per cent, of the motorvehie'es in the w0r1d—29,505,475—are register© l in U.S.A. As minted above these figures were as at the loginning of the year. If is estimated that at present Australia has nne care to every 12 persons .
