SACRED CANTATA.

JUNIOR, PREIStBYTER IAN CHOIR

St. John’s Presbyterian Church was filled last evening when die cantata “The Childhood of Samuel” was submitted by the junior choir. AiU ambitious effort successfully achieved, goes down to the credit, ol Mr Charles- Lamb, who conducted the large choir of 30 voices, and with the assistance of Air L. Rowe at the organ, lovers of high-grade- music were agreeably surprised at the excellence, of the rendition of this well-known composition. The isoloists were in. particularly fine voice, and to Misses Alina Bailey, M-o mi McvNae, Afarcia Sunderland, Elsie Twaddle, and Audrey McLaren, much of the .success, oi' the evening i-s due. Ohving to the indisposition oi the original -soloists, a few alterations had to be -made at the last moment, but this in no way detracted from the excellent -performance. Miss Alma Bailey was heard to advantage in “Sadly onde did Israel’s Daughter” and the “-Slumber Song.” Of the concerted numbers, those outstanding were “Go Tdll to Rli’isi Hoiisei This Word y and “When the Alorn Begins to Break, both items being rendered in a masterful and sympathetie manner reflecting the greatest credit upon the conductor and singers alike. “The Radiant Mom,” by the senior choir, was tastefully ’-sung, while Miss Murdoch, who v.-ai* in very fine voice, gave a splendid rendition of “I Know That My Redeemer Livitli.” The duet “Lead 1\ lrnl-lv Light,” by Miss Dunn and Mr P. Lamb wais one of the gems of the evening, both voices blending in a most delightfully harmonious manner which gave bot h si Hirers ful l scope to exercise their artistic talents to the full.
