HAWERA PIPE BAND
THE SHOP DAY. In aid of the Haver a Highland Pipe Band a ladies’ committee held a successful shop day on Saturday. It was held in premises in Union Street all day. There was a. goodly supply of produce and other goods for disposal, and the result was a receipt in all of £2l 8s 6d. The ladies’ committee included Airs. J. Lauren son, who directed the organisation, and Mesdames W. G. Simpson, C. Bowman and J. Naim. Various competitions were held, in which the winners were: Cake, Mrs. A. Thomson 131 (correct number 135); supper cloth (peas in bottle), Mrs. G. Duncan 463 (correct 456); dinner, complete three course (string), Mr. A. Reid 2yds 2ft 21 in (correct 2yds 2ft Jin).
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE
Mr. J. B. Laurenson presided at a meeting of the executive of the hand on Saturday evening, when a report was received from the ladies on the good results of the shop day. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had assisted.
, Arrangements are being, made for a visit of the band to Okaiawa on August 1 in conjunction with the Scottish Society. The hand will also attend at the Scottish social on Wednesday.
