AUROA PIPE BAND.

SECOND' SOCIAL OF THE YEAR. Young and old alike foregathered at the Auroa Ha-11 on Friday night, the occasion (being the Auroa Pipe Band’s second social of the year. Members of the Hawer.ii Scottish Society were present whilst a. good number came long distances to he there. A truly Scottish atmosphere prevailed, the gay tartans and effective decorations giving a brilliant touch to the scene. Moua.tt’-s orchestra dispensed well beloved Scottish airs for the old-time dances which were such a feature. They were helped in the modern dances -by Air E. Jeffries on the acoordeon.

A sit-down supper was provided by a committee of ladies. Messrs N. MacKinnon and T. Ross were M’-s.C. Items rendered were: 79th Farewell to Gibraltar, The Hundred Pipers, and the Mackenzie Highlanders by the pipe band, under Drum-Major «W. Bell; accordeo-n duet, Angry, Mr E. Jeffries and Master J- MacKinnon'; song, The Barring of the Door, Air Simpson (Hawera); -recitation, Mrs Twaddle; songs, Annie Laurie and Robin Adair, Miss Mary Oaulbis; songs, The Hundred Pipers, Airs Lawrence; Highland Fling, Miss. Margaret Lawrence; Character Sketch, Air Simpson and Airs Twaddle ; pipe duet, Prince Albert, Pipers R. Sturgeon and D. Cameron. For the Scottish dances Piper A. Ross played whilst Pipers R. Sturgeon and .D'. Cameron supplied a waltz. Air N. MacKinnon, in a speech, thanked the Bawera performers for their valuable assistance and the public for attending in such good force-. Air Simpson, in reply, said they would -always - do their best to help. Especially so- now that the band was going to commence- a campaign to provide uniforms. He thought liis executive would favour the idea of an ingle-side- at Auroa within the next few weeks. They would then bring a haggis. , “Scotty” -Bell, in a neat speech, then referred to the coming effort to raise funds for uniforms. He appealed to the people of Amroa to -support their hand. The evening concluded with the singing of A.uld Lang Syne.
