Lisbon, messages state that Captain Gonsalvesj "in charge of the garrison of the St. George fortress, declared a rebellion. Government forces attacked the rebels and an artillery duel continued the night long. The rebels succeeded in capturing the neighbouring guards’ barracks, but were foreed back and surrendered at 8.30 o ’clock this morning.
