LADIES’ GAMES
HIGH .SCHOOL 2 v. PIHAMA 0,
The Hawera High School eleven, defeated Pihama by two goals to nil in a keen well contested game at Pihama on Saturday., , From the commencement School toon the ball into Pihama’s circle and Miss K. Petersen notched the first goal. From the ensuing bully Pihama travelled down the field and were unfortunate in not scoring, the School goalkeeper ceding a corner. From the hit School cleared and took the ball upfield but were driven back again b.v thc Pihama backs. Time and again Pihama gained ground, but the School backs managed to clear. Pihama were having much the better of the game and were very unlucky in not scoring. The spell ended with the visitors still leading by one goal to nil. From the commencement of the second spell the ball travelled up and down field and considering the roughness of the ground, some fair hockey was -witnessed, each team striving hard to score. Pihama were unfortunate on two or three occasions, as were also School, until about five minutes before time, when, from a scramble in front of Pihama’s net, Miss Petersen scored with a nice shot. ) For the winners no player could he singled out'for special mention. All played well for Pihama and showed a big improvement. Mr E. Fryer refereed. After the match the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea. RAMBLERS v. OTAKEHO.
PERFORMANCES REVIEWED. In the drawn game, two all, between Ramblers and Otakeho on Wednesday, Miss Shannon saved some nice shots, but should learn to use her feet. . Miss Adam's, right full-back, played well. Miss (Hayward, left full-back, whs fair, but let a lo't pass by, and was inclined to speculate. _ Miss Clement, left half, played a good game, but is inclined to get up amongst the forwards. Miss N. Davies, centre half, was oood on attack and did a lot of useful work, but must remember (to help her b-a'ck's. Miss Brough, right half, played well considering it was only her second o-ame. She requires to develop the hit and keep back tactics and avoid crowding the wing. Miss Conway, right wing, and Miss E. Rowe, inside right, played good games. , _ , Mis® Woollianrs, at centre, played her usual good game. She was unlucky m not scoring witfi a solo effrot from one end to the other. Miss W. iConway, inside right, played well. - Miss Ruth Burns played a good game on the wing, but should remember not ■to lift her stick too high.
