An, explosion occurred on the auxilliary ketch' Oslo in Bluff harbour on fu/es'day evening, resulting in two of tbe crew being injured. The men were Herbert Grace, aged 38 and married, wb'p! locelved! severe burns on the face, hen.d, and hands, and Colin Lee. aged 20, who received burns on the face. The Oslo returned from Ruapuke Island today, some trouble being experienced vi'ih the engines on the way across. When nearing Bluff, Gracia and Lee vent down to the engine room to see if tile trouble could be rectified,. An attempt was made to tighten up, the clutch, and the men had hardily started the work when there was a, sudden flash a, tongue of flame shooting, .round them. A launch was summoned and . the Inin rad men were brought ashore for medical attention. Grace Was 'ordered to> the, Southland hospital, hut Lee was able to, proceed to his home. The Oslo wa® practically undamaged as a, result of the explosion, which is attributed to backfiring.
