CORRESPONDENCE.
HAWERA AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I w'ould be greatly indebted to you if, on behalf of the executive of the Hawera Amateur Operatic Society, you would allow me space to express, our gratitude to all who so ably assisted us in our recent production of the “Punch Bowl.” Our thanks are especially due to the chorus, girl® and boys, who have so admirably played the game, both as to the high, efficiency of their team work in the proiaction and their conduct throughout the rehearsals and production. We, with them, feel that they have had a happy and instructive time. We are under a great obligation to the members of the orchestra, who most generouslv gave their valuable services gratuitously. We fully appreciate their work, and recognise t-liat a great part of the success of the production was due to their individual efforts. We desire to express our deep gratitude to the members of the Grand Opera, who also most generously gave of their time and ability; also to the individual isoloistts and dancers and those who took part in the sketches. It is indeed very encouraging, to note the disinterested support which has been, given us as a society. We wish also to record our thanks to the stage manager and assistants, electricians, Opera-House staff, and “front of ■house” staff for their valuable assistance. Also to the various business firms who so' kindly lent us necessary properties for rehearsals, display . in Winter Show, and for the production. We would also add to our list our wardrobe mistress and assistants, our property master and assistants, our pianist and conductor; all acquitted themselves with signal -ability, and were no mean factor in the success, or the extravaganza. The thanks of the whole' society are very warmly exSed to our producers, ’ Messrs. ston and Baxter, who not onlj have reflected great credit on themselves, but have,' by their kindness, courtesv and patience, brought out the best- in* the individual members of the society. Lastlv, we desire to express oui very great thanks to the public, without whose support we could not cany on. We wish to emphasise that it is Hawera’s society, and so long as the people of Hawera. support its own society so long are they boosting then own town. We feel that in common with all the other musical societies of Hawera, the Amateur Operatic Society is part of the community. It has its particular niche in the community edifice, and .so it is very inspiring to see that the public recognise' our efforts. We would, however, respectfully reauest more than the attendance and enjovment of the public at the- production!’ We invite membership support, helpful criticism, and constructive suggestions whereby we can extend our scope as well as provide healthy instruction and amusement. We are healthlv iealous that- in fair mm petition Hawera will, maintain its place among the operatic societies of the country, and we feel confident that the public of Hawera will assist ns by continuing its interest and providing the wherewithal to do so. Included with the public we add the Press, without whose sympathetic criticisms' and descriptions the society could not get so close to our patrons —the public. Op behalf of the executive of the Hawera Amateur Operatic Society.— T am, etc., J. MeGHTF. President.
